99designs.com

I forgot how I got there, but this is a very useful site for free lancers that feel they don’t have enough clients or just want to make some extra (quick) cash.

99 designs

Every (starting) web designer has those moments: “Ok, I finished that project, now what?”. Instead of staring at your monitor looking for porn, you could make some extra bucks at 99designs.com.

It’s basically sort of an eBay for designers, combined with a little competition.
It works like this: Somebody wants a logo or a page design done and puts it up on 99designs. They also add what they want to pay the winning design. Contests lasts a week. Within that week, you as a designer can start doodling using the description the contest holder wrote and add it as an entry to win the contest. When the contest is over, and you’ve created the winning design, you get paid.

I hear you think: “Yeah, but there are probably a lot of designers way better than me on there…”. Yeah, so? Don’t you want to get better? Learn from the winning designs, and enter new ones with your new knowledge. Still didn’t win? So what? You have some stuff for your portfolio and I bet you’ve learned a thing or 2 about why you didn’t win, and eventually, you’ll end up with a few bucks in your pocket.

It’s all about experience.
